Online Consignor Tips
CONSIGNOR ONLINE SELLING TIPS:
If you like using your phone to enter items, just enter and then snap a pic as you go. You will see the "upload photo" button.
I like using my laptop for my typing in my descriptions. So I enter 10-20 items and then pick up my phone, edit each item and add the pic. But I am old:-).
If you need more than one pic to display the item, then use a free app on your phone like PIC COLLAGE to combine them into one pic.
A better picture makes the item more likely to sell! Make sure you have good lighting for an accurate representation of your item and color!
Use a nice background that is not distracting. I use a piece of foam board (from Dollar Tree) for my background. Or a white wall. Don’t use a wrinkled sheet or something messy that takes your eye away from the item.
Stage your item so that it looks good. Smooth out the wrinkles. Snap the snaps (onesies), button up the buttons, zip up zippers. You can use a hanger to hang your clothes (or lay them flat).
PLEASE Use a Good Description! Especially if you have 2-3 of the same item. If you sell one of the 3, you will need to be able to find that item without being able to see the pic (easily). So if you have 3 Carters Pants, one tan and one blue and one black, then you will need to bring the right one that sells. So the solution is to use the color in the description. If you bring the wrong one, the customer will reject it and we will have to refund their money. Another idea to help with multiple items that are similar is to quickly label your item with a sticker with the item number.
Don’t forget to use the extra 3rd line for your description. You can describe something not noticeable (like mention that there is tape on the corner of a game box). I sometimes use it to put the retail price.
You can use photo to say more if you can't fit it in the description. Type or write something out that you can take a pic of and add to your collage.
Take vertical pics even if your item is more horizontal. You can see a little preview of the photo when it is uploading, so make sure it is rotated correctly.
Be sure to find the items that are hard to package together in the “in-person” sale, like multi-piece toys (like a doll house with little figures and furntiture).
You can group things together, like books. Just make sure you are keeping track of which books they are. So if you have 2 Magic Tree House books together, and then another 2 together, you know which one is which!
For the categories TOYS, BOOKS, and PARENT PARADISE, there are new “sizes”. Please pick one to help us organize the Shopify store better.
If the item would be not accepted at the “in-person” sale, then it is not acceptable here either. For example, a torn book or a stained shirt. I will not have the time to look through each picture for quality. If there is a minor flaw, make the buyer aware (and disclose it on the photos).
Sometimes the pics of items with a lot of lines won't upload (like a plaid shirt), so I suggest rotating your phone and trying again.
Keep your items organized after you enter them! Last sale, some consignors lost items, or had a hard time finding them. I put “like” items together in a box to easily find. For clothes, just keep them in a stack in the order that you input them. I did NOT LIKE having to tell shoppers that their item couldn’t be found and had to spend a lot of time doing returns.
Don’t forget to hit the “READY FOR ONLINE SALE” box for each item. If you don’t hit this, the item won’t be uploaded to the Shopify Store.
